Course Description:
This course is designed for those non-native students who have successfully passed the writing proficiency exam. This course covers an integrative systematic approach of both grammar and writing skills for effective written communication. Through the step-by-step process of building solid academic essays, this course will prepare the ESL student for not only level II, but for a continued improving and refining of their academic writing skills.
Course Objectives:
Students will be able to use the process approach to write essays that demonstrate the concepts of unity, support, and coherence. While this course focuses on academic writing at the university-level, it also benefits those students in other fields such as nursing. Nursing and many other fields use similar writing styles (obviously proper academic writing as well) that this course will help explain and inform how and why things are written the way they are. This leads to increased knowledge of the formats and better overall comprehension of various texts.
