global lifestyle brand. Joseph Abboud can now outfit
a man in style throughout his entire life, thanks to
new lines of clothing for men and boys, including the
JOE Joseph Abboud line for younger men, the new line
of fine clothes for boys, and a growing collection of
casual wear. Abboud brand names include Joseph
Abboud, Joseph Abboud Jeans Inc., JOE Joseph Abboud,
Joseph Abboud BOYS, and Joseph Abboud Home. In
addition, the Company has an expanding universe of
products which currently cover more than 30
categories – including men’s and children’s apparel,
accessories, intimates, soft home goods and ophthalmic
eyewear. Footwear is the latest addition in the
continued expansion of Joseph Abboud lifestyle product
offerings through superior craftsmanship, styling and
select materials, the footwear collections reflect
the brand’s core principles of authenticity and
versatility. This transition to global lifestyle brand
has brought explosive growth. Retail sales have
grown from $120 million in 2004 to $400 million in
2007, with profits increasing by 30 percent in each
of the last two years, a clear statement the Company
has not sacrificed profitability in order to grow its
business.
The Company concentrates on only on the very
best retailers and specialty stores and is constantly
looking for ways to improve the customer experience
and reinforce its relationship with the stores that
carry our products.
Joseph Abboud products aren’t
everywhere – the large majority of domestic sales
occur in about 415 “doors” in the U.S. The Company
carefully chooses where to sell Joseph Abboud fine
menswear and other products and intensively markets
the products in those select locations. As a result,
our customers develop a strong affinity to the Joseph
Abboud brand. The Company is developing innovative
new ways to respond to the needs of our customers.
For instance, the ‘made to measure’ Personal Style
System ™ segment is a particularly fast-growing area
of the business. Because of continuous improvements
in the manufacturing and distribution process at
Joseph Abboud manufacturing facility in New Bedford,
Mass., the Company can now manufacture and ship a
custom suit in about a week.
Further improvements are
also being made to the already-outstanding quality of
the jackets and trousers made at our New Bedford
factory. Our unionized factory is a real point of
pride, as Joseph Abboud is the only remaining American
designer with a significant U.S. manufacturing
operation. In surveys, customers consistently say they
identify designers with their country of origin and
expect that product to be manufactured in that
country. Overseas, Joseph Abboud is partnering with
quality licensees as the Company develops new
products, expands into new markets and generates
profitable top-line growth. The Company’s licensing
initiatives have been a particular area of growth,
growing from a $2 million a year business to one that
generated $55 million in sales in 2006. Joseph Abboud
was in 3 countries before 2004.
The Company’s
licensing expansion now means Joseph Abboud products
are sold in 33 countries. By the end of 2007, that
will expand to nearly 50 countries. |
